DSP Appreciation Week

September 11-17, 2011 is Illinois’ Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Recognition Week. By proclamation of Governor Quinn (D, IL), community-based service providers around Illinois are celebrating the hard work of the dedicated service professionals that give care and support to individuals with mental illness and disabilities.

As part of the celebration, Residential Options, Inc. and Challenge Unlimited, Inc. hosted lunches that included honoring the exuberant efforts of our DSPs. Drawings were held at each special lunch and employees were rewarded with a chance to win gas cards and checks for up to $300.

"This week of recognition is a great opportunity to honor the vital role they play in seeing individuals with disabilities living happily and successfully in the community," said Diane Tebbe, Vice President of Residential Options, Inc., and emcee of the events.

Residential Options also used the local luncheons as an opportunity for DSPs to participate in national advocacy efforts. Everyone was encouraged to participate in DSP Call on Congress Day, a national effort by ANCOR (American Network of Community Options and Resources) to have DSPs, advocates, and families contact their Congressional Representatives about the importance of their continuing support for DSPs.

To close out the celebration, in honor of Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week, each manager has a special treat planned for their employees in thanks for all the work they do on a daily basis. Challenge Unlimited and Residential Options are proud to honor all of our care professionals for their efforts to provide a nurturing home for persons with disabilities and mental illness.
